Overview

It is little wonder that the greatest reliquary of Elven magical knowledge also serves to warehouse the finest works of art and literature the world has ever seen. The White Tower of Saphery is not to be mistaken for a simple museum, for it serves as a place of higher learning for the most scholarly of pursuits. It is here that Elves deemed worthy to learn the ancient ways of magic are sent.

The study and practice of High Magic is a mystery that requires an understanding of the Winds of Magic that few mortal creatures are capable of achieving. Also known as True Magic or Qhaysh in the tongue of the High Elves, the spells of High Magic possess a versatility and efficiency of use unmatched by anything employed by Human Wizards. It is the unique physiology of the Elves that grants them an inherent acuity to the ebb and flow of the Winds of Magic. This heightened awareness allows Elven Mages to sense any imbalances while weaving their spells. Coupled with decades of instruction under the Mages of the White Tower, an Archmage of even a modest skill is capable of manipulating most, if not all, of the Winds of Magic to his purposes.

How To Play

The Archmage is a master of all of the Winds of Magic, capable of weaving a tapestry of destruction upon their enemies or one of healing and support to aid their allies. In WAR, an Archmage's function is to switch between damage and healing and they perform best when doing this. Their damage output is moderate and their base healing abilities offer excellent single target support. They have few group-oriented healing spells, so they are best utilized to support group mates currently being targeted by the enemy. Most of their damage is dealt via DOTs, which allows them to apply pressure to multiple targets while reaping the benefit of their offensive actions to support the healing of their groupmates.

Archmages utilize all magic in balance. As they weave magic from their offensive arsenal, they generate Tranquility (defensive High Magic). The Archmage uses Tranquility to help power healing spells, making them either quicker to cast (for those with a cast time 20% faster per point) or more potent (for instant spells 5% more potent per point). Casting multiple defensive spells in a row will also generate extra Force (offensive High Magic), which will in turn be used for offensive spells in the same manner.

Archmages function best when alternating between offensive and defensive actions. When damage is desirable, start with your sturdy DOTs. If enemies are ignoring you Searing Touch will deal large amounts of damage quickly. Pay attention to the health of your groupmates during combat. When a heal becomes necessary, use Boon of Hysh if you are not currently being attacked. If a faster heal is necessary, Healing Energy will do the job. To combat small persistence damage, utilize the HOT spell Lambent Aura. If everyone in your group is damaged, the Blessing of Isha will help heal everyone at once. At this level, you should use Prismatic Shield before combat to help increase your groupmates' resistance to magical damage.
